SDGs and Sun Labs

We’ve been talking in the office about how we work with SDGs, or Sustainable Development Goals, and I realized that we haven’t mentioned it anywhere on our website. So, I decided to see if I can clear this up! This is in no way an easy task and it will probably be a something I will have to come back to. But for now would I just want to open up the topic. So, for you who might be curious: What are the SDGs?

In September of 2015 did all the member states of the United Nations decide to collectively work towards a total of 17 goals for global peace and prosperity. These 17 goals are the Sustainable Development Goals, and they are both comprehensive and interconnected. I wont describe all of them here but you can find them all on UN’s website, or in the link below. We at Sun Labs Nordic believe this a good start, but we can see that compromised have been made for these goals. Even if this is how progress is made, do we still hope that both countries and companies decide to go even further in their strive towards sustainability!

We at Sun Labs Nordic usually talk about sustainability in the environmental sense, but it is important to note the whole spectrum of sustainability. We have for example continuous discussions about how we can work for equality in the office (SDG 5) and how we can work for strong and responsible institutions (SDG 16). The SDGs are comprehensive and interconnected so we are never working with just one, and this an important lesson. The world is complex and it needs a multifaceted solution. Here at Sun Labs Nordic are we trying to find comprehensive solutions, but we also believe that it is important to start somewhere and question how we behave today. It is possible to change the world, as long as you start somewhere.

Last week did the office discuss Sustainable cities and communities (SDG 11), Responsible consumption and production (SDG 12) and Climate action (SDG 13), and how we can work with these and our new sustainability platform Mimer. It’s been an interesting discussion that I’m sure I will come back to in the future.

Working with us at Sun Labs Nordic is to be working the SDGs and we are always looking for ways to improve our impact on the world. If you have any questions on how we work that I yet haven’t answered, then contact any of us. We’d be happy to tell you more!

Until next time do I wish you all the best!
/Nisse, Sun Labs SDG officer
